Syracuse University (SU)is a private research university located on University Hill in Syracuse, New York State. Founded in 1870, originally affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, the university is now secular. SU awarded the first Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the United States in 1874 and established the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 1934.

Today, SU offers education to more than 22,600 students in 13 faculties and colleges. The university stands out in fields such as communication, journalism, business, engineering, architecture, architecture, public administration and fine arts. In particular, the Martin J. Whitman School of Management is consistently ranked among the top 15 in the US for entrepreneurship (#13) by the Princeton Review, and the Maxwell School for public and international affairs is ranked number one in the US by U.S. News.

Syracuse University is a member of the elite Association of American Universities (AAU) and has a classification of "Very High Research Activity" (R1). It has annual R&D expenditures in excess of $150 million and conducts active research in areas such as information studies, public health, engineering, and media communication. The university has research centers in biomaterials, disability policy and media studies.

The 683-acre campus combines historic Romanesque architecture with modern structures. Highlights include the JMA Wireless Dome (formerly the Carrier Dome), Hendricks Chapel, the E.S. Bird Library and many student centers. The University also offers study abroad opportunities with eight global study centers in cities such as London, Florence and Beijing.

Student life at SU is vibrant: More than 300 clubs, independent student newspaper The Daily Orange and award-winning events organized by the University Union. On-campus accommodation is compulsory for first and second year students. There are 22 dormitory buildings, cafes and many dining halls on campus.

Syracuse's sports teams, nicknamed the "Orange", compete in the ACC conference at the NCAA Division I level. In total, the university has won 16 NCAA team championships. Particularly great success has been achieved in men's lacrosse (10 titles), basketball (2003) and football (national championships).
