Towson University - Maryland

Towson University was founded in 1866 as Maryland's first teacher training school and has evolved into a large suburban public university affiliated with the University of Maryland system. Today, it serves more than 22,000 students, offering 110 undergraduate and more than 80 graduate programs in eight colleges.

The university is particularly prominent in professional fields - especially business, nursing, education, computer science and health professions. Its online and graduate programs have strong national rankings. Towson is highly regarded for inclusive excellence and social mobility, ranking highly in Maryland and nationally.

The 329-acre campus includes 16 residence halls, the West Village student campus, the recently expanded University Center (University Union), state-of-the-art sports and wellness facilities, and the TU Arena. The campus is equipped with amenities that support academic success, health and social life, and has easy public transportation connections to Baltimore.

Student life is vibrant: More than 300 student clubs, student media (The Towerlight newspaper, WMJF TV, WTMD radio) and events such as the annual Tigerfest. The university's arts community is known for its award-winning literary magazine "Grub Street".

Towson's sports teams are known as "Tigers" and compete in the Atlantic (CAA) Conference at the NCAA Division I level. There are 19 different varsity teams that excel in lacrosse, swimming and gymnastics, and the university has won several conference championships.
