The University of Sunderland is a well-established educational institution with its origins in Sunderland Technical College, founded in 1901, which gained university status in 1992. The University operates from four campuses: two in Sunderland, one in London (specializing in business, tourism and nursing) and one in Hong Kong.
In 2018, the university was selected as one of five new medical schools to open in the UK, aiming to reduce regional inequalities and increase access to medical education.
The University has strong links with business and industry. In particular, engineering and media students have the opportunity to gain work experience in well-known companies. The successful integration of professional practice into the curriculum and the active involvement of industry partners has been praised by the UK's official Teaching Excellence Framework.
Each faculty collaborates with the business world to offer students advantages in many areas such as curriculum development, research, internships and guest lectures. Joint projects are carried out with leading organizations such as Accenture, Sage, BBC, Northumbria Police, Caterpillar, NHS, Army Medical Squadron.
The University of Sunderland provides students with a strong career foundation through hands-on learning, industry-relevant programs, and an employment-oriented approach.
