The University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) is a large public university that welcomes approximately 15,000 students (12,500 undergraduate, 3,000 graduate) on three campuses. The total campus area is 534 acres. The university began as a private college founded by the Omaha Presbyterian Theological Seminary and became a public university within the Nebraska State System.

UNO has six faculties offering more than 200 programs in areas such as business, engineering, informatics, health, public affairs, education and fine arts. The Faculty of Information Science and Technology is housed in the renowned Peter Kiewit Institute and includes leading programs in computer science, cybersecurity, management information systems and bioinformatics. 

Research and innovation are cornerstones of the university. The R2 research classification indicates significant growth of applied research in disciplines such as biomechanics, agriculture, informatics and public affairs. The Firefly supercomputer at the Holland Computing Center supports advanced academic research.

UNO is a vibrant student city, with active internship programs, dozens of media outlets such as KVNO classical radio, MavRadio, The Gateway newspaper, an extensive sports program and vibrant campus life.

Their sports team, the Omaha Mavericks, competes in the NCAA Division I league. Teams such as ice hockey, basketball, soccer, baseball and volleyball play in modern facilities such as Baxter Arena and Tal Anderson Field and Connie Claussen Field.
