Cookie Policy

In effect from

Draft. This document has not yet been reviewed by a solicitor and does not constitute legal advice. It is published here for review and is not indexed by search engines.

What this policy covers

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies, such as local storage and tracking pixels, do the same job. This policy covers all of them and calls them all cookies.

The law that applies is the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), read with the UK GDPR. It means we must ask your permission before we store anything on your device that is not strictly necessary for the website to work, and refusing must be as easy as agreeing.

How we ask

The first time you visit, you see a banner with three equal choices: accept, reject, and manage your choices. Nothing in the analytics or marketing categories runs until you have said yes to that category. No box is ticked in advance.

You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer of every page. If we materially change the cookies we use, we ask you again rather than assuming your old answer still applies.

The categories

Strictly necessary. These make the site work: remembering your language, keeping a form submission secure, and remembering your cookie choice. They do not need your permission and cannot be switched off.

Analytics. These tell us which pages people read and where they give up, so we can fix the site. They only run if you allow them.

Marketing. These are used to measure advertising and to show relevant advertising on other sites. They only run if you allow them.

The cookies we can set

Some of these only exist if the relevant feature is switched on. If we have not connected analytics, no analytics cookie is set, whatever you choose in the banner. Where we embed a video, we use the privacy enhanced player, which does not set advertising cookies unless you press play.

Where analytics or advertising tags are in use, we pass your choice to them using Google Consent Mode. Refusing analytics sets analytics storage to denied, and refusing marketing sets advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation to denied. Security and functionality signals stay on, because they cover the strictly necessary category.

Controlling cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing that for strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working, for example the payment page or the contact form. Browser help pages explain how, and your browser's privacy settings are the place to look.

What we do with what we learn

Analytics data tells us how the site is used. It is reported to us in aggregate. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not combine it with your enquiry or client file.

More about your data

Our privacy policy explains the lawful basis for each category, who the suppliers are, how long we keep data and how to exercise your rights, including withdrawing consent.
