University of Sunderland

About this institution
University of Sunderland – England
The University of Sunderland is a long-established educational institution, tracing its origins back to Sunderland Technical College, which was founded in 1901, and which was granted university status in 1992. The university operates across a total of four campuses: two in Sunderland, one in London (specialising in business, tourism and nursing) and one in Hong Kong.
In 2018, the university—selected as one of five new medical schools to open in the UK—aimed to reduce regional inequalities in this field and increase access to medical education.
The university has strong links with the business world and industry. Students studying engineering and media in particular have the opportunity to gain work experience at well-known companies. The UK’s official Teaching Excellence Framework has commended the successful integration of professional practice into the curriculum and the active contribution of industry partners to the educational programme.
Each faculty offers students benefits in a range of areas—such as developing the curriculum, conducting research, providing work placement opportunities and organising guest lectures—through collaboration with the business world. Joint projects are being carried out with leading organisations such as Accenture, Sage, the BBC, Northumbria Police, Caterpillar, the NHS and the Army Medical Squadron.
With its focus on practical training, industry-linked programmes and a career-focused approach, the University of Sunderland equips its students with a strong foundation for their careers.
