About this institution

University of Nebraska, Omaha – Nebraska

The University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) is a large public university with approximately 15,000 students (12,500 undergraduates and 3,000 postgraduates) across three campuses. The total campus area is 534 dönüm. The university began as a private college founded by the Omaha Presbyterian Theological Seminary and was subsequently converted into a public university within the Nebraska State University System.

UNO comprises six faculties offering over 200 programmes in fields such as business, engineering, information technology, health, public affairs, education and the fine arts. The Faculty of Information Science and Technology is based at the renowned Peter Kiewit Institute and offers leading programmes in computer science, cyber security, management information systems and bioinformatics.

Research and innovation are among the university’s cornerstones. The R2 research classification indicates that applied research has grown significantly in disciplines such as biomechanics, agriculture, computing and public administration. The Firefly supercomputer, located at the Holland Computing Centre, supports cutting-edge academic research.

UNO has a vibrant atmosphere as a student city; it stands out for its active work placement programmes, dozens of media organisations such as KVNO classical radio, MavRadio and The Gateway newspaper, an extensive sports programme and a lively campus life.

The sports teams known as the Omaha Mavericks compete in the NCAA Division I league. Teams such as the ice hockey, basketball, American football, baseball and volleyball sides play at modern venues including Baxter Arena, Tal Anderson Field and Connie Claussen Field.
